Roland (Roly) Paul Lamontagne, a resident of Stockton, California, passed away peacefully in the early
morning hours on January 4, 2024, at St Joseph’s Hospital. He was born in Brockton, Massachusetts to
Harry and Jeanette Lamontagne.
Roly leaves behind his devoted wife Beverly of 57 years, daughter Michelle (Fred) Martino, sister Connie
(Charlie) Ries of North Carolina, sisters-in-law Peggy Lamontagne and Randi Wise, brother-in-law
William (Chris) Sayre and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his
parents and brother Richard Lamontagne.
Roly joined the United States Air Force and achieved the rank of Captain. He was a Navigator Nuclear
Weapons Bombardier instructor at Mather Air Force Base in Sacramento, CA.
Roly’s passion was his love of golf. He began playing at the age of 9 and at 14 won the Massachusetts
State Junior Championship. After a lengthy amateur career, Roly earned his way onto the PGA Tour,
becoming a member in 1968. He regained his amateur status and won his second California State Fair
Amateur Championship in 1975 and in 2001 won the California Senior Amateur Championship. In 2003
Roly’s book “Golf & Me– Playing for Knee” was published.
Roly’s legacy was one of love, his incredible sense of humor, laughter and will be forever cherished by all
who knew him.
A mass will be held at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 18633 Front Street, Linden CA on April 26, 2024, at 10AM.
