Betty passed away peacefully, at the age of 96, with family by her side.
Betty was born in Charlotte North Carolina and raised by Lambert and
Bathsheba West. Betty loved being with people and spent many years
working in the food industry. Cooking, serving, and managing restaurants
and small café’s. She also loved to travel and spent many years traveling
the U.S. with her husband Jim in their motorhome with the Tuleberg
Travelers R.V. Club. Betty also volunteered as an Ombudsman assisting
Families of loved ones with brain injuries and disabilities. She was preceded
In death by her husband James E. Hightower and sons Michael and Stephen
Williams and Stepson James E. Hightower Jr. Survived by Stepson Dana
Hightower (Leslie), four Step grandchildren and six Step great grandchildren,
and Step Niece Patt McCleary. Betty lived the last six years of her life at the
Oaks at Inglewood in Stockton. While there she enjoyed the social life and
the fun daily games and activities. She also made wonderful friendships.
She was an Ambassador, welcoming new residents. Helping them become
familiar with their new surroundings and making them feel at home.
Many thanks to the caregivers at the Oaks at Inglewood for providing
wonderful care during her time there. Betty was laid to rest with her
husband and best friend Jim Hightower, at the San Joaquin Valley National
Cemetery in Santa Nella, Ca. Arrangements entrusted to Zapata
Funeral Home in Stockton, Ca. per Betty’s request, there will be no services.
